Calpe is situated on the Costa Blanca on the east coast of Spain and is about 20 kilometers north of Benidorm. It is often spelt as Calp on many maps. It is positioned behind a peninsular which has a spectacular rock formation. Either side of the peninsular are fabulous sandy beaches, which are backed by hotels.
The city of Calpe is a perfect combination of romantic village together with sun and beach. In lies between the towns of Altea to the south and Javea to the north, Calpe has about 13 000 inhabitants, but this number greatly increases during the holiday periods.
It is known for its rock called the 'penon de lfach'. This massive rock has been inspiring people from everywhere to come and enjoy the spectacular view around the bays and along the coast in both directions.
Calpe’s two main beaches are generally known for their beautiful fine sand. There are also two other beaches, 'la Fossa' and the 'bay of Gasparet' which also come under the jurisdiction of Calpe. The beaches offer many kilometers of excellent swimming and surfing possibilities.
If you want a break from the beach you can explore the town. Built in the 15th century, there is an old church which has been rebuilt many times over the past centuries, as a result of the city having been attacked by pirates many times. Calpe’s archeological museum can be found just opposite at the Plaza de la villa and has many artifacts from the 4th to the 8th centuries. Close by, are the ruins of the Roman occupation and the 'bano de la reina'. The museum makes an interesting visit, which can be found by going through the cities interesting streets, with its shops, restaurants, bars.

If you feel like straying further a field, the neighbouring town of Teulada, has interesting fishing and yacht harbours.
Calpe weather is one of the mildest along the Costa Blanca due to the mountains behind the town, and protect it from the stronger north winds.
The nearest airport is Alicante, about 66 kilometers to the south, or If you intend to arrive by car, make for the N-332 which passes through the outskirts of Calpe. A little further back again, is the motorway 'Autopista de Mediterraneo'.
