Santander

Santander is the capital city of province of Cantabria, is located on the northern coast of Spain, between Asturias and the Basque Country overlooking the Cantabrian Sea. During the second half of the 19th. century, Santander became the magnificent coastal resort of El Sardinero, which was frequented by the Spanish upper classes. Fortunately, today it has an easier to remember name, and welcomes everyone. It's beautiful beach together with the promenade and the Magdalena Peninsula are some of the main attractions for tourists.

Beautiful Santander is surrounded by amazing scenery and eleven sandy and extremely clean beaches where you can get a sun tan or bathe in their crystal clear waters. As there are a lot of things to do in Santander, it suits just about everybody's taste, especially as it offers a wide range of leisure activities such as museums, parks, theatres, excursions and sports.

When visiting Santander, you should also visit some of the nearby towns dappled along on popular Pilgrim Route to Santiago de Compostela, such as Comillas, Castro Urdiales, Sanña, Suaces and San Vicente de la Barquera . Then, of course, there are the natural parks of Saja-Besaya, Oyambre and Peña Cabarga or you could explore the picturesque spots in Picos de Europa.

No matter which direction you will be arriving from, you can travel to Santander by land, sea and air. The city is easily reached via the national road and rail infrastructures as well as to the new international airlines connections. Then of course, there's the ferry to Santander's interesting port.
